American Beech

Straight grain, fine to medium uniform texture. Pale cream color. Venner is slightly darker. Good workability, machines, finishes and glues well. Also good for steam bending. Can have a lot of movement.

American Walnut

Grain is usually straight, but can be irregular. Has a medium texture. Heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. Sapwood is pale yellow-gray to nearly white. Typically easy to work provided the grain is straight and regular.

Generally straight grain, some have curly grain patterns, Heartwood is light pinkish brown when cut, then darkens with time and exposure to light. Sapwood is pale yellowish color. Common for most to have some sapwood along the outer edges. Durable and resistant to rot, however not generally used in exterior applications. Machines well. Some issues when staining.
